Throughout the process of building out our brand new UI - the originally intended standalone ProjectBlank UI - a question has reverberated: what is the purpose of Threads.
This story goes all the way back to the inception of the idea of ProjectBlank. We started out with an idea that we would create a spinoff of the LeoFinance project into our own standalone Twitter app. While this standalone app is still on the table, we have changed course quite a bit.
Post-analysis on PolyCUB tells us that we spread things too thin. There is still a place and value for CUB and POLYCUB, but that is something that we are actively building out in the DeFi space. We believe we've achieved the right model for CUB and now it's playing out in real time - you can see it grow as the buyback/burns take hold of the economy and bHIVE & bHBD liquidity continue to expand. This renewed mission will be deployed on the DeFi front and IMO turn CUB/POLYCUB into one of the few platforms that are truly sustainable, reliable and growing.
...But this post is about ProjectBlank. Throughout all the successes and failures over the past 1.5 years, we've learned a lot. We have many more team members than we did when the idea of ProjectBlank first came to be and we have a lot more knowledge of this industry and the technology that we've built.
Spending all the time we spent building this technology has taught us that we can scale it much bigger than we originally thought possible. Thanks to Hive, we have a generational opportunity in front of us.
What is My Vision of Threads?
Many have asked since the launch of Threads Open Alpha - what is Threads for? What can you post on Threads? What is allowed.
I think the beauty of Web3 is that anything is allowed. It's less what is allowed and more what is encouraged.
The community can encourage any content that they want to see by upvoting content they deem to be "good" and downvoting content that they deem to be "bad".
This is a beautiful, decentralized upvote economy. It's an amazing thing. Yes, it's not perfect but it is far better than the alternative.
My vision for Threads has now co-mingled with my vision for LeoFinance... Things are evolving and it's time we evolve with them.
My Vision for LeoFinance
LeoFinance is on the precipice of a major evolution.
The new UI is nearing release - we plan to have the Open Alpha available for you to test before Christmas 🎄 - and this has changed our perspective on the future of this ecosystem.
I've had a bunch of discussions both with our team and with many community members. Evolution is not something you just decide, it's a constant process of evaluation, iteration, re-evaluation 🔂
Many have had concerns over launching another token. Launching "BLANK" token as being a mistake - again, spreading ourselves too thin.
Going back to the drawing board a few months ago - when we new ProjectBlank was nearing release - we decided to go back on the original idea to have a new "BLANK" token.
Instead, LEO will be the benefactor of the Everything App.
LEO is the BLANK token. We already have great distribution and a great community of diamond pawed hodlers. We've all been through so much together. Why thin out our diamond paw blood and create more than is necessary?
This leads to one of the downsides: no blank token means no "anything goes" application.
... Or does it?
LeoFinance as an Everything App
LeoFinance is heading in an interesting direction right now. The LEO token is here to stay as the backbone of the entire economy
- Emissions will not change
- A separate BLANK token will not be launched
- A separate platform will not be launched
Instead, LeoFinance becomes The Everything App. LeoFinance becomes the powerhouse of innovative features that our team is building. It becomes the home of Threads and Blogging - Micro and Long-Form - and it becomes the benefactor of all the rewards of network effects as we continue to scale this project.
The problem that many see is: how will we open up to the masses if our branding is around Crypto & Finance.
As I said earlier in this post - IMO, Web3 is about opening things up to the community. It's about giving the community the decentralized upvote/downvote economy to decide what is valuable and what isn't.
To me, Engagement is everything. Engagement is what creates a reason for us to all be here. On top of that engagement, we are all rewarded with tokens for our actions. Upvoting, posting, commenting, Threading... We're rewarded in tokens for doing things that create more engagement and reverberate network effects.
My Vision
My vision is that LeoFinance becomes the Crypto Twitter Killer.
Not Twitter Killer. Crypto Twitter Killer.
I think we already have an incredibly strong community of Lions. We have people who care about crypto, finance and other topics as well. We have people who love to create posts around these topics, love to read other posts around them, love to create Threads about them...
It's time to proliferate that and evolve into Crypto Twitter. Right here on LeoFinance.
Some may think that it is too niche. Some may push against this idea. That's okay! Remember? Evolution is constant evaluation, iteration, re-evaluation. Continue to push on the idea and we will continue to refine our approach.
Does this mean that non-crypto/finance topics are no longer allowed on Threads / LeoFinance Posts?
No! Like I said, the niche focus for me is Crypto Twitter. That's what I believe we should brand ourselves as being.
But the everything app can handle more than just financial topics. Any topic goes.
So how do we handle this? We create strong segmentation on the UI.

Our goal with the UI will be to create the frameworks to split off into topics.
If you only want to read / create Threads about Splinterlands, then the UI will allow you to filter out for anything that isn't related to Splinterlands.
You'll be able to follow your favorite Splinterlands authors. You'll be able to visit the Splinterlands Community Page and read curated content about Splinterlands... You'll be able to visit the page and read curated threads about Splinterlands.
Now apply that framework to any topic. Roller blading? Filter out for anything that isn't roller blading.
I believe that we can open up the UI to any topic while still focusing the core branding around being a "Crypto Twitter Killer".
Constant Communication
We need to constantly talk about these ideas. As you can tell from this post, the ideas are quite all over the place. The discussions are always taking place and the vision for this ecosystem is ever-evolving.
What remains true is the core product: building the Web3 Everything App.
You can DeFi from it. You can Post long-from content from it. You can Post Microblogs (threads) from it. You can curate from it. You can manage your Hive wallet from it. You can build a brand on it. You can earn rewards on it...
The core product remains the same... The discussion here is around marketing and branding for the product... and it is just beginning.
